HEIC to JPG on Mac
Updated 19 October 2026
macOS opens HEIC natively. For one photo, Preview’s Export to JPEG is enough. For many files — or the same no-upload flow as on Windows — use HeicLocal in the browser and download a ZIP.
Option A — Preview (built in)
- Open the .heic in Preview (double-click usually works).
- Choose File → Export…
- Set Format to JPEG, pick a quality, then Save.
Preview is great for a few exports. Dozens of shots get tedious — that is when batch helps.
Option B — HeicLocal in Safari or Chrome
- Open the free HeicLocal converter.
- Drop multiple .heic / .heif files onto the page.
- Download each JPG or one ZIP — conversion stays in your tab.
No account, no install, no ads. Handy when sharing to Windows, web forms, or apps that still want JPG.
Tips
- AirDrop HEICs to your Mac, then convert — you do not need a cloud upload just to change format.
- iPhone Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible makes new shots JPG; old HEIC still needs conversion.
- On Windows instead? See the Windows HEIC to JPG guide.
